I went for a high key style again, but no candy this time! If you watched the “I Want Candy” video, I used a very similar setup. White backdrop, 1 to 2 primary strobes and two background lights to blowout the white background. I found some poses that I like and an outfit that says, “All work and no play makes SnapChick a dull girl.”

My trusty Alien Bees strobes provided good, even illumination, which is exactly what I was wanting.

Here is a teaser for everyone, but the VIP’s get the whole shoot πŸ™‚

The subject says it all! The D3100 and the 35mm DX are such a great combination? Why?

  • Lightweight
  • Fun
  • Lightweight
  • Fun
  • Fun!

To me, this combination is what photography is all about – walk around, try different things, a combination that keeps the camera “out of the way,” composing with your feet, latitude to shoot in low light without flash.

I’m so excited about this combination, that I wanted to share some photos that I captured this weekend! Clicking the small image will bring up the full-size, out of the camera, no post-processing image. This may take awhile on slow connections…

Look for the tiny reptile in the center of the second image! πŸ™‚

It’s a BIG week for candy… so why not pretend that I NEEDED candy for a photo shoot. The feedback from my recent shoots has been pretty good, so I figured I’d keep doing what you like to see. I went high key this time – white background, lots of illumination, white shirt.

VIP’s… head to the bottom of the post – you get a longer-format video and, of course, the bonus photos!

Here’s the video…

and here are the promo images. I talk about how I put these together in the video.

And for my darling VIP’s πŸ™‚ 18 total images and the super-fun bonus video! πŸ™‚

Tonight’s shoot weaves a tale… intrigue… seduction… murder! Not real murder! And not a real pistol either. But it’s fun to play a part and pretend. The shoot is based on a fantastic reader suggestion and the moment I read the idea, I loved it and found some creativity!

It ended up a bit -steamier- than I planned… does that seem to happen a lot? Or is it just me?

I put the D3100 through the paces, often in low light, along with the 17-55mm DX lens at f2.8 with the camera at or near ISO 3200 for most of the shots. I shot raw, two stops underexposed, and in available incandescent lighting, with an extra hot-lamp for one or two shots.

Here are a couple of shots for everyone… and then more for the VIP’s at 1280 pixels wide.

Hi! I asked on Facebook, “Send some ideas for a photo shoot” and the consensus was an Audrey Hepburn theme. Of course, the problem is that it is not easy to do a shoot in the theme of someone much better looking than you! But, I played with my hair and tried to dress the part.

I used my Alien Bees and an SB-800 (in SU-4) mode. The SB-800 was sometimes used as a background light and other times to add a little bit of kick on the left side of the frame. One of the Bees was used with a shoot-through umbrella and the other beaming down from high above on the right side of the frame with no modifier.

For processing, believe it or not, I shot in RAW (since I knew I would have to do a ton of processing due to the vast difference in beauty between Audrey Hepburn and myself. I used Aperture 3.0 and the “low contrast” B&W conversion, but I then tweaked contrast and exposure to my liking.

I definitely spent more time with this shoot and processing than usual. When my Facebook folks ask for something, I want to assure that I deliver!

My esteemed VIP supporters can look below for all of the images from the shoot! For everyone, though, here are two samples.

VIP’s, please enjoy the rest of the images!
