Do you ever have an idea for a photo but aren’t quite sure how you’re going to execute it… or even if you can create the look at all?

I’ve wanted to recreate a print that was hanging in my childhood home. It was a print of a watercolor painting of a woman. It was a bit abstract, with the woman blending into the background. You couldn’t totally make out the shape of her face, she was definitely sitting on the ground and her shirt was open a bit but she was making eye contact with the viewer. It was very relaxed and a maybe even a little bit sultry. I always loved it for it’s mysterious beauty.

But how to create the look of a watercolor painting in a photograph?

Here’s what I came up with…

I pretty much achieved my goal, through a mixture of high-key lighting, clipped highlights, and a bit of post-processing. VIPs, sign in to see a gallery of images, some more blown out like the one above, others simply in the high key style.
